Levelling of wall surfaces made of aerated concrete (siporex) or surfaces treated with decorative renders, and polishing of surfaces painted with relief wall paints

Polishing process of surfaces, which have been painted with relief wall paints, depends on the type of the applied paint.                                                                                                             

a)
If present paint application is resistant only to dry scrubbing (JUPOL RUSTIKAL or a similar paint was used for painting), then the matter is simple: sprinkle the surface with water or roll it several times using a wet fur roller and thus soften the paint application. Then, remove it using a trowel and wash away any remains with a wet cloth. Afterwards, the dry wall surface                                                                                               
   
– is either repaired locally (repair only damages – scratches, abrasions, lesions, and similar) with JUBOLIN REPARATUR or JUBOLIN P-25 (the easiest way), or with JUBOLIN or NIVELIN (the more difficult way),

- or entirely polished with JUBOLIN or JUBOLIN P-25 or NIVELIN.

In both cases, coat the cleaned surface with diluted ACRYL EMULSION first (ACRYL EMULSION : water = 1 :1), and apply levelling compound usually in two, but if necessary, in more coats in thickness of 1 to 2 mm. Remove excess compound from the treated surface using a stainless steel smoothing trowel, while trying to smooth the surface as much as possible. Sand the first coat with sandpaper prior to the application of the second one, and the same with the second or the final coat. Grinding can be performed either manually or by machine.                                        

estimation of use of the levelling compound for local repairs (JUBOLIN, REPARATUR, JUBOLIN P-25, JUBOLIN or NIVELIN) is not possible because it depends on the number, size and depth of defects and damages                                                                                      

to polish a m² of medium rough surface, you will need ~1.5 to 2 kilos of JUBOLIN (manual application) or JUBOLIN P-25 (manual or machine application) or ~1 to 1.5 kilo of  NIVELIN (manual application) and ~0.1 kilo of AKRIL EMULSION.

If the surface is painted with washable relief paints or relief paints resistant to wet scrubbing (e.g. ACRYLCOLOR RELIEF), rub them well using a trowel and remove all loose and badly-adhered particles. Then, remove dust from the surface (it is best to wash it). The next phase is smoothing with JUBOLIN or JUBOLIN P-25 or NIVELIN, which is applied in usually two, but if necessary, in more coats in thickness of 1 to 2 mm. Regardless of the manner of application, remove excess compound from the treated surface using a stainless steel smoothing trowel, while trying to smooth the surface as much as possible. Sand the first coat with sandpaper prior to the application of the second one, and the same with the second or the final coat. Grinding can be either manual or performed by a machine.

The easiest way to level a more or less relief surface of decorative renders is to apply one or two coats of micro-reinforced LEVELLING RENDER. It adheres to the substrate well, dries quickly due to low thickness, does not crack when drying and presents an ideal substrate for fine levelling or smoothing (prior to decorative painting) or for the application of a new decorative render.                                                 

Coat the surface of a decorative render with diluted ACRYL EMULSION (ACRYL EMULSION : water = 1 : 1). Apply LEVELLING RENDER onto a still wet undercoat. It is applied in one or two coats in thickness of up to ~4 mm. First, impress vinyl-covered glass fibre mesh in size of ~50 cm x 50 cm as diagonal reinforcement into corners of wall holes, and special reinforcing corner angle bead on corners and reveal edges. If necessary (in case decorative renders, which are being levelled, are also severely cracked), micro-reinforce lower coat of the levelling render entirely in case of two-coat levelling using a vinyl-covered glass fibre mesh, which is switched at length and width for at least 10 cm.

for a m² of a levelling coat in usual thickness of ~4 mm, you will need
~120 g of AKRIL EMULSION (basic coat) and ~5.2 kilos of RENOVIRNI OMET

for diagonal reinforcement of corners of one wall hole, you will need ~1 m² of vinyl-covered glass fibre mesh, and to reinforce a m² of entire levelling coat, you will need ~1.1 m² ; to treat a m¹ of corner and reveal edges, you will also need ~1 m¹ of special reinforcing corner angle bead made of perforated aluminium steel-sheet or hard plastic reinforced with belts in width of ~20 cm of vinyl-covered glass fibre mesh.

If AKRINOL is used to fix boards made of siporex (aerated concrete) instead of traditional building mortar, wall surfaces are almost ideally level. Therefore, thick-coat masonry plastering (traditional cement layer + traditional thick lime-cement render + traditional fine lime-cement render) can be replaced by an application of one or two coats of micro-reinforced LEVELLING RENDER. It adheres well to a demanding and unstable (as regards to volume) wall made of siporex (aerated concrete), dries quicker due to lower thickness, cracks substantially less at extending and shrinking of the wall due to changes in temperature and other changes, and, thus, presents an ideal substrate for fine levelling or smoothing (prior to painting) or for the application of one of thin-coated decorative renders.
